Kidnapped in 1944 by Soviet counterintelligence, Nikolai Vasilievich Sablin, leader of the Russian emigration in Romania during the interwar period, was tried and sentenced to 20 years in Soviet camps. After he returned to Bucharest in 1955, Sablin was entered under the Securitate surveillance and arrested in 1958 for writing a paper describing his detention for more than ten years in Soviet camps - "Memories about the journey thorough Eldorado". Persecuted, tried and convicted for his anti-Soviet activity to another 20 years in prison and total confiscation of his assets, Nikolay Vasilievich Sablin died in Dej prison in 1962. This paper deals with the investigation of the Securitate which led to the prosecution of Sablin and his wife, Elena; the two phases of the trial (at the Military Tribunal of the Second Military Region and at the Military College of the Supreme Court) which convicted the two and the detention in prisons in Bucharest, Jilava, Pitesti, Dej and Miercurea Ciuc. The sources this paper is based on reveal the interest the Securitate had, inspired by the Soviets, in the clandestine regrouping of the organization of the White emigrants in Romania. Given that the country ceased to be a breeding ground for anti-Soviet activity, as it was in interwar period, the repressive approach focused on activity of Sablin. popup.nrat_date 2025-05-12 Close
