The problem-thematic, compositional and genre-design characteristics of the journal «Shershen» which considers to be the starting point for Ukrainian satirical journalism, is investigated. The definition of «satirical magazine» is given, its features as a separate type of print publication in the context of the satirical discourse are outlined.
