Статья посвящена историко-статистическим исследованиям Киевской епархии. Отмечается ряд предпосылок, которые служили началом создания на территории Российской империи в 50-х годах ХІХ в. историко-статистических описаний епархий, которые в свою очередь послужили началом соответствующих исследований и в Киевской губернии. Рассматривается процесс создания описания, а также отражаются дальнейшие официальные и неофициальные историко-статистические разведки Киевской епархии. The article is devoted to historical and statistical research of the Kyiv Diocese. In the beginning of this article specifies the preconditions for the creation of the dioceses descriptions of the Russian Empire. Indicated due to the specific imperial national policies and reforms that swept the church organization was deploying powerful church-historical research. One of the areas of the statistical intelligence dioceses were Dnieper Ukraine in general and the Diocese of Kyiv, in particular. The process of establishing the church statistic was due to the needs in the collection, analysis and synthesis of information on different areas of life and activity of the peoples of the empire, which in turn was intended to improve the control mechanisms of the borderlands. Extensive scientific research was organized and conducted based on the orders of the Holy Synod, a special committee headed by Bishop Chigirinsky, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis Rev. Apollinaris and Kyiv Regional Committee. During the committee collected data on manuscripts that were in the Sofia Library and the library of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery unimportant description made Diocese of Kyiv and so on. But organized historical and statistical studies lasted not long. Already in the 50s of XIX century. there was a gradual collapse. In 1868 a project to create an all diocesan description was finally closed by the Holy Synod. Collected and compiled historical and statistical information concerning the Diocese of Kyiv and failed to publish. But despite, the official suspension works on creation of historical and statistical description of the Diocese of Kyiv in the second half of XIX - early XX century there was published sporadically conducted a series of professional church historians and amateurs scientific studies. During this period, published also “Diocesan guides”, containing materials of historical and statistical nature.
