Пошук сенсу життя пронизує всю історію людства. Суїцид, що є суто людським актом, трапляється в усіх культурах. Жан-Поль Сартр зазначав, що різниця між людиною і твариною полягає в тому, що людина може покінчити життя самогубством. Своєрідність цієї проблеми така, що, торкаючись найдавніших філософських, етичних, соціальних проблем, вона збереже свою значення і в майбутньому. Змінюється лише ставлення до суїциду залежно від специфіки історичного фону. The article is an attempt to analyze the historical phenomenon of suicide in religious – philosophical context. The problem of suicide reviewed at different times in different societies specific to their customs, social assessments of behavioral models. Humanity goes through time and space and hasn’t decided questions about the meaning of life. Suicide as purely human act is inherent in all cultures. The peculiarity of this problem is such that, referring to the ancient existential problems, it will retain its value forever. Only the attitudes to suicide is changing depending on the specific historical background. Actualization of the suicide problems eventually likely will increase.
