Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder, characterized by rapid and uncoordinated atrial activation which is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice. Atrial fibrillation is observed in 1.5 - 2% of the general population and its incidence increases with age reaching more than 8-15% by 80 years of age. Atrial fibrillation is traditionally considered as a non genetic disorder.
