Th e leading role of France and Germany in the post-war unifi cation of Europe based on Christian values is shown. Important position of French politicians and special role of the Minister of Foreign Aff airs of France of post-war Europe Robert Schuman were noted. It has been found that over the last decade Europe has moved away from the value system of initiators of unifi cation processes, which has largely caused the current acute crisis in the European Union. EU absorption potential that do not meet challenges of the modern world is analyzed.
