Проаналізовано історію біографічної концепції, закладеної в основу книги. Зазначено поєднання фактографічної точності біографічних довідок про художників з висловом про митця. Їхній підбір відбиває суб’єктивний погляд автора на цю проблему. Такий само принцип закладено і до підбору ілюстрацій у книзі. The article presents the history of Ukrainian art in the names of its brightest representatives from the times of Kievan Rus to the XXI century. The history of the biographical concept underlying the book is analyzed. The combination of factual accuracy of biographical information with a statement about the artist is indicated.
