They can be developed and offered by a wide range of institutions in various formal, non-formal and informal learning contexts. While micro-credentials have existed for decades across vocational and technical education, in higher education, the burgeoning field of microcredentials is currently gaining momentum. Micro-credentials, which represent an alternative approach to career and professional development, attest to the learning outcomes of short-term courses which provide tailored and adaptive learning opportunities for personal and professional development.
