Bike sharing provides a multitude of advantages, including the reduction of noise pollution, the fostering of a healthy mental environment, and the encouragement of physical activity. It also aligns with global agreements on sustainability, including the Paris Agreement and COP 26. This thesis focuses on developing bike-sharing systems in Ukraine, specifically in Lviv, to facilitate the country’s integration into the European Union. The main challenge for bike-sharing programs is to efficiently align the supply of bicycles and docking stations with the demand for rides, considering factors such as location and time of day. This study aims to estimate the demand for bike rides in both the central and non-central municipal districts of Lviv. The approach builds on existing literature on bike-sharing systems and proposes a unique analysis of bike-sharing demand. The findings present a functional model that estimates the number of bike rides in Lviv, considering city structure, day of the week, and weather conditions. The city of Vienna is used as a representative proxy for Lviv to estimate the model. The thesis proposes a unique way of counting the number of bike rides at a given time using the General Bikeshare Feed Speci- fication (GBFS) data. The paper details data sources, data engineering, and model specification. The thesis results are valuable for both Lviv municipality and bike-sharing com- panies, enabling them to gauge potential profits that could be generated from im- plementing a bike-sharing system in Lviv. popup.nrat_date 2025-05-09 Close
