On the basis of archival sources, the mainly Ukrainian period of V. I. Butakov's life has been reproduced and reconstructed, the scientific preferences of the researcher have been clarified - from chemistry, archeology to the history of the West, and individual works of the scientist have been identified. To date, the full life path and scientific legacy of the scientist have remained unexplored.
