The work analyzed psychological-pedagogical and historical literature on the problem of patriotic education; factors influencing the process of education of modern students are considered; foreign experience of extracurricular work aimed at patriotic education of students was studied; the content, forms and methods of patriotic education of students were investigated; criteria for patriotic upbringing of students were formed; developed a system of extracurricular classes for the formation of patriotism of students of a higher education institution.
