Postmortem examination of 145 deceased persons (age 35 - 80) with hemispheric stroke complicated by secondary brainstem syndrome was done and 1060 case histories and pathology records of patients died of acute stroke were analyzed. Histopathologic criteria of vessel changes, neurons and gliacytes of brainstem were determined and they can be used in pathologoanatomic diagnostics for evaluation of thanatogenesis in acute stroke.5635
