The purpose of the research is to investigate the evolution of the EU's political and economic transformation, conduct a general analysis of changes in the political and economic architecture of the Union under the influence of recent waves of enlargement, migration crisis and disintegration processes, and to evaluate the actual and potential consequences of such changes for the union as a whole and candidates for accession in particular. The information base of the study consists of research works of domestic and foreign scientists, expert assessments and data of statistical bases of the European Union. Methods of retrospective and prospective analysis, comparison, system analysis will be used in the research process. The political and economic aspects of integration will be addressed in their dialectical interaction
