The aim of the project is to identify ways of integration and transformation, sources of evolutionary innovations in mammalian skeletal systems in the transition to air and water lifestyles. The main objects of study are cetaceans and bats, including extinct and modern. The project will cover evolutionary processes according to the mechanisms of heterochrony, along the lines of the least evolutionary resistance, continuation of ontogenesis on the example of groups with high size variability and long lifetime. The rate of driving and stabilizing selection in morphological structures and regulatory genes will be assessed.
