Up-to-date manufacturing engineering is characterized by increasing requirements for the quality and accuracy of manufacturing machine parts. The special complexity differs in the field of high- quality and accurate surface machining of machine parts. Simultaneously, the importance of designing and manufacturing parts is an urgent task of production planning, which significantly affects productivity and flexibility. According to modern trends, the creation of highly automated flexible manufacturing creates the need for new methodological approaches to ensure quality parameters and reduce the ownership of machine-building products. This is because fixtures are an integral part of the closed technological system “machine tool – fixture – cutting tool – workpiece”. They are designed for accurately locating and reliable clamping of a workpiece during machining on metal-cutting machine tools. The fact that fixtures affect the production of competitive engineering products is indicated by the following data: fixtures are 70-80% of the total amount of technological equipment in the machine-building industry; part of the fixtures is 10-20% of the total cost of the production system; 80-90% of the time spent on production planning includes the design and manufacture of fixtures; 40% of defective parts after machining is caused due to the imperfection of the fixtures; 70% of the new fixture layouts are a modification of the existing ones.
