Aim: to assess the genetic potential of berry crop diversity for scientific and educational programs; to expand and enrich berry crop collections with sources of valuable economic and biological traits; to establish and register collections for their integration into scientific, breeding, and educational programs; and to ensure the long-term storage of accessions in a viable state and with genetic authenticity within field collections.
The effective utilization of the global genetic diversity of fruit, berry, nut, and ornamental crops, its preservation in a viable state and genetic authenticity, the targeted introduction of new cultivars and forms with the required level of expression of hereditary economic and biological traits, their comprehensive study according to these traits, as well as their formation and inventorying, are essential for the further development of high-productivity horticulture, breeding, science, and education, and ultimately, for the national economic development.
