The aim of the project is to restore the ‘Bilohorshcha Peat Bog’ landscape reserve (58.8 ha), through nature-based solutions, in particular by conducting scientific research (biodiversity values, anthropogenic impact) to assess the situation following restoration measures based on the methodological approach of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); preparing proposals to expand elements of the ecological network in the area of the reserve; agreeing the roadmap for restoration measures with stakeholders and making amendments; carrying out restoration measures for priority vegetation types in the landscape nature reserve as part of the project’s objectives, taking into account rising groundwater levels and climate change; carrying out measures to restore the nature reserve’s avifauna through the installation of artificial nesting boxes; supporting a community platform for the restoration of wetlands within urbanised ecosystems to engage volunteers, which will include extensive communication support (production of videos, newsletters, a website, a suite of communication tools, and social media); delivering environmental education programmes for local residents to raise their level of environmental education and awareness of the importance of wetland restoration; organising and participating in interactive workshops (including international ones) to develop tools and improve measures for the restoration of community wetland ecosystems; handling day-to-day project management, attending project meetings and public events, preparing reports, liaising with project donors, undertaking overseas trips to visit project partners, and participating in Restore4Life project activities, including academic presentations and the presentation of project results, collecting information for a regional list of rare animal species requiring protection within the Lviv region, and determining the presence of bird species and habitats.
