The aim of this work is to convert S. toyocaensis NRRL 15009 into a combinatorial biosynthesis (ComBio) platform for reconstructing the structures of clinically important teicoplanin-like and A40926-like compounds using desulfo-A47934 as a scaffold, generating structurally novel GPAs based on desulfo-A47934, and developing and applying strategies to increase the yields of alternative GPAs produced by ComBio approaches.
