As a result of the work implementation it has been found that the use of protective coatings on cutting tools equipped with cBN-based polycrystalline superhard materials allows increasing the tool life in turning iron- and nickel-based difficult-to-machine materials by 25 - 30%. The recommendations as to the choice and application of protective coatings are elaborated.
