Object of the research is a magnetic field source in a human heart modeled as a point magnetic dipole. Aim of the work is to develop algorithms and methods for solving an inverse problem of magnetostatics, which arises in interpretation of magnetocardiographic measurements. The problem is to define currents distribution in the patient's heart based on the measured magnetic fields. To this aim it is proposed to use a simple model of a magnetic dipole in order to describe the heart electric activity. So, the main task is starting from the measured distribution of the normal components of the magnetic field in the plane discrete aperture to determine the position and transverse components of the equivalent magnetic dipole that would create the field distribution, which is most similar to the measured one. To this aim a mathematical method has been developed, it is based on nonlinear optimization algorithms, and a corresponding software suit hasbeen created that is able to process real measured data. As a result of the R&D project execution the following main tasks have been solved: 1. Analytical-numerical solution of the magnetocardiography direct problem was obtained that consists in algorithm for calculating the magnetic fields for a given magnetic dipole. 2. A technique is developed that allows fast and robust solution of the inverse magnetocardiology problem consisting in localization of the magnetic field source in the heart. The technique is based on advanced nonlinear optimization algorithms. 3. The developed method was compared against the method of eigenvectors used formerly. 4. Analysis and systematization of the experimental results was carried out as regards quality of the source localization in case of test signals from a coil. 5. The developed algorithm and software coded in C++ is in use in several hospitals in the USA.
