Role of the gate potential on formation of a tunnel current in the system "electrode-linear molecule-electrode" is studied at the conditions when the energy of extended molecular orbitals of the molecular bridge is well separated from Fermi-levels of electrodes. It is shown that an electric potential of the gate electrode controls current-voltage characteristics of the molecular device over a wide range of current strengths via a shift of the bridge electron levels.
