The aim of the research is: basing at the competency-oriented approach theoretically substantiate and experimentally test the scientific and methodical provision of the control and assessment of the educational achievements of the primary school pupils. The methods of the research are: analysis of the philosophical, psychological, pedagogical and methodical literature, dissertations; generalization; mass questioning; individual conversations with pupils, teachers, parents and other categories of the pedagogical workers; study of school documentation and results of instructional, cognitive and practical activities of pupils; pupils' and teachers' direct examination in the educational process; stating and forming experiment. The outcomes of the research are: the scientific and methodical provision of the control and assessment of the educational achievements of the 1-4 form pupils in Ukrainian language (mother tongue), reading, mathematics, the health foundations, the "Myself and Ukraine" course based at the competence-oriented approach have been worked out; in particular, the objects, functions, types of control, criteria of assessment of the educational achievements of pupils have been theoretically substantiated; the scientific-based instruments (measures) of the control and assessment have been worked out; the worked out system of measures and the methods of their application have been experimentally tested. The outcomes of the research have been presented in the manuscripts, i.e. the method text-books "The Control and Assessment of the Educational Achievements of 1-2 forms pupils (10.0 quires) and "The Control and Assessment of the Educational Achievements of 3-4 forms pupils (12.0 quires); the monograph "The Didactic and Methods Provision of the Control and Assessment of Educational Achievements of Primary School Pupils Based at the Competency-oriented Approach" (12.0 quires). The novelty of the received outcomes are in: substantiation of the re-directing of the control and assessment of the educational achievements of the primary school pupils based at the competency- as well as the personal-oriented approaches; specification the essence of the main notions within the problem of the control and assessment of the educational achievements of the primary school pupils in the context of realization of the personal- and competency-oriented approaches in education; scientific substantiation of the theoretical grounds of the elaboration of the methods provision of the control and assessment of the educational achievements of the 1-4 forms pupils under conditions of the subject competences formation (educational areas of the State Standard of the Primary General Education: "Languages and Literature", "Mathematics", "A Man and the World", "Health and Physical Culture"). The efficiency of the performed work has been proved by the results of the mass experiment on probation of the criteria of the assessment of the educational achievements of the primary school pupils and of the local experiment on testing the efficiency of the elaborated research methods of the individual sub-themes in the context of the collective theme. The area of application is: pedagogy, professional methods; general secondary school, in particular, its primary level; the system of the higher pedagogical education and in-service teacher training.
