Objective - to provide theoretical background for reducing energy consumption and increase the reliability of the municipal electric transport. Research methods - passive experiment, mathematical logic, methods of mathematical analysis, sequential apparatus, fuzzy logic. Theoretical and practical results: there had been suggested the new approach to the determination of the specific movement resistance value of the vehicle as for the spent energy, which may be used for the evaluation of wagon driver qualification level; there had been suggested practical solutions to reduce electric power losses in the trams' pantograph; there had been developed a mathematical model and a device, which realizes it for controlling and registration of trams' parameters, as well as there had been built an algorithm of its functioning; there had been developed mathematical models and structures of the devices for the diagnosis of pneumatic systems of the trolleybus, traction electric motors, current receivers, brake linings; there had been formulated the tasks, the solution of which will allow to receive additional savings of electricity in the process of trams operation; there had been suggested the reduction of trams' electricity consumption due to modernization of the engine-generator, wagon heating system, switching off the ventilation system of electric traction motors of the first cart without their overheating in the cold season; there had been suggested the principle for ensuring optimal value of contact pressure of the tram pantograph on the contact network and device for its realization; there had been made practical realization of an integrated device for the diagnosis of complex systems of the trolleybus; there had been suggested the detection system for revealing tram's wheel sets skidding; there had been developed the system for controlling the main resistance of the wagon's movement.
