The new macrocyclic 16-membered and 22-membered crown bisazolium salts were obtained upon the quaternization of bisimidazolyl- and bisbenzimidazolyloxaalkane podand system with dihalogenoxalkanes. The interaction of crown-salts with strong bases followed by the treatment with metal halogenides gave the new crown-carbene complexes of copper, nickel and palladium. The crown-biscarbene - 1,1,3,3'-bis(3-oxapentylene)-bisbenzimidazole-2-ylidene was synthesized for the first time upon the deprotonation of 1,1',3,3'-bis(3-oxapentylene)-bisbenzimidazolium perchlorate with potassium tert-butoxide in pyridine. The highest degree of catalytic activity was found for the 1,1',3,3'-bis(3-oxapentylene)-bisbenzimidazole-2-ylidene copper (I) iodide complex (TON = 80000, TOF = 32000) among the metal-carbene catalysts for the reaction of ketone reduction with isopropanol.
