The object of the study: winter rye. Aim of the study: to create a new initial material for breeding varieties and hybrids, to study the previous created hybridic material, to elaborate and improve breeding methods for varieties and hybrids and seed production at all the stages of selection. Investigation methods: a basic method of breeding admitted in the Institute is a multi - stage hybridization with the use family selection with provision for combining ability. Breeding is conducted only on a short - stalk basis an optimum height of plants is 100 - 130 cm. For the creation of such varieties and hybrids donors with short stalks with recessive polygenic and dominant monogenic condition-rate trait. Stalk-shortness and other economic traits transfer is conducted by means of backcrosses with following homozygosisness and selection. During 2006-2010 years the new initial material his been created studied. The voluafle high-yielding lines 95-202ms; 94-2098 ms; 97-956 ms; 96-4027 ms; 01- 1201 ms; 262 ms. Winter rye variety "Khudoerko's Memori" (appl. № 07003002 of 24. 07. 2007.), winter rye variety "Stoir (appl. № 0800309 of 25.11.2008), winter rye hybrid "Kharlei F1 (appl № 10003002 of 27.07.2010), winter rye hybrid "Khair F1 (protocol №7 12.10.10) have been created and sent to State Variety trial winter rye variety "Khudoerko's Memori" has been enlisted into the State Plant Variety Register of Ukraine.
