Investigated subcellular mechanisms for the mobilization of [Ca2 +]i in response to stimulation of metabotropic cholinergic receptors intestinal smooth muscle cells and inotropic purinoceptors membranes of smooth muscle cells of visceral and vascular smooth muscle in normal and from experimental diabetes. Shows the key role of phospholipase C and adenylyl cyclase in the purinergic inhibition of intestinal smooth muscles, as well as identifying changes in synaptic transmission of gastrointestinal smooth muscle from experimental diabetes.
