The research focuses on the study of mathematical models of diffusion-reaction processes at spherical and cylindrical microelectrodes for any plausible set of electrochemical reactions. Analytical and numerical methods of solution of initial and boundary value problems for systems of partial differential equations were employed. A new strategy for modelling diffusion-reaction processes at spherical and cylindrical microelectrodes with arbitrarily complex electrochemical reactions has been developed. The proposed method combines the application of analytical coordinate transformations and an adaptive computational grid. The new criterion for the adaptation of the latter is based on the analysis of the kinetic terms of the respective partial differential equations. The analysis of simulation results for several examples of electrochemical reaction mechanisms representing the most severe difficulties for the numerical simulation revealed that very high accuracy of computed electrochemical currents can be achieved for any values of chemical rate constants.
