Granulometric analysis. chemical, mineral and petrographic characteristics of the metallurgical sludges, slags and products of their beneficiation were studied. Mineral composition of the sludge particles after separation in the magnetic and the gravitational fields and technological analysis was studied, thus enabling to determine their mineral origin and to offer a novel classification principle. Thermodynamic modelling confirms a possibility of oxidation the iron-bearing oxides to magnetite in the silicate melt. Phase transformations during oxidation processes were experimentally studied in the synthetic and in the industrial slags. Numerical modelling and experimental study confirm a possibility of the magnetite crystals separation from the silicate melt due to the electromagnetic buoyancy force.
