Based on the results of test it is necessary to change the concept of wheel steels selection, giving the advantage to such characteristics as fatigue crack growth resistance in comparison with strength, hardness and wear-resistance. It is required to optimize high-strength wheel steel in order to reduce its susceptibility to cracks formation under the temperature-force factors influence during a wheel braking by a rail.
