The motion equations which are convenient for theoretical research is obtainned for mechanical systems with distributed parameters. These equations represent a hybrid system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations. Oscillatory motions of an elastic beam is investigated by Galerkin's method. The initial-boundary value problem for the Euler-Bernoulli beam is considered, approximate and generalized solutions is obtained.
