The work goal was an improvement of element design of complex modernization proposed by ITM of the NASU and the NSAU according to the results of theoretical and experimental studies for standard freight car trucks (18-100 model) taking into account their operation experience on Ukrainian railways The research methods: methods of mathematical and computer simulation, statistical dynamics, numerical integration, mathematical statistics, the theory of vibrations, the theory of elasticity. Studies on updating the structure of elastic constant contact side bearings to extend their life and improve dynamic coefficients of freight cars with complex modernized trucks are made. The effects of various joint structures on dynamic performance of a freight car with modernized trucks in the pair bolster/side frame are analyzed, and a version is proposed to improve dynamical and life factors of freight cars without increasing their cost. The car wheel rim profile with 32 mm flange thickness resulting to a further essential decrease in flange wear intensity is developed. Proposals on improvement of element design of freight car trucks complex modernization are developed. These proposals are implemented at trucks complex modernization at Ukraine's car repair plants at a period of major maintenance and depot repair of cars. The novelty is in-depth studies on advanced lines for improvement of running gears design of freight rolling stock. Range of application: updating freight rolling stock of railways of Ukraine and other countries with 1520 mm track gauge.
