The main aim of research is to analyze the establishing of the idea of the unity of Ukrainian regions (sobornist) through the activities of socio-cultural societies of the 19 - first half of the 20 centuries ("Rus'ka Triitsia", "Prosvita"), Ukrainian political parties of the end of the 19 - first third of the 20 centuries, Ukrainian parlamentary representatives in the State Council of Austro-Hungarian empire and Polish Sejm and Senate, state institutions of the Western Ukrainian National Republic, oppositional movement of the second half of the 20 century. The influence of constitutional-parliamentary practices and political system of the Habsburg empire on Ukrainian national movement and political modernization of the West Ukrainian society is explored. The importance of Ukrainian question during the World War and the interwar period of the 20 century as an international factor is clarified, the particular features of socio-political development of Western Ukrainian region at the turn of the 1980s and the 1990s in the context of the aspirations of national-democratic forces to renew Ukrainian state that would include all Ukrainian regions are summed up and characterized.
