First of all, the paper finds out the date and circumstances of M. Yatskiv's familiarization with Franko's works, their acquaintance and personal meetings. The work also reveals in details peculiarities and the content of the cooperation between the tutor and the writer-beginner: the work in Shevchenko Scientific Society and its publishing houses: the editorial office of the "Literaturno-Naukovyj Vistnyk" ("Literary and Scientific Bulletin"), a publishing house of the "Rus?ko-Ukrayins?ka Vydavnycha Spilka" ("Russ-Ukrainian Publishing Association"); tutor's editorial and proofreading support; his role in the publication of Yatskiv's works. The work of M. Yatskiv-translator started from a combined project with Franko (drama translation of the Norwegian writer B. Bj?rnson "Beyond Human Power") and the work on O.-E. Hartleben's prose (according to Franko's order). We considered reviews of both persons written in the press, letters to others respondents, memoirs. The content and the problems of their correspondence have been analyzed. We systematized Yatskiv's appeals in published and unpublished writings, notes to Franko's scientific and literary texts on the level of citations, allusions and reminiscences. The work presents interpretation of Yatskiv's attitude to Franko's civil and writer's hypostases. We tracked Yatskiv's role as an important source of the information about I. Franko and as a collector of the literature on this subject (his help to other memoirists, confirmation of the authorship of Franko's certain articles, storage and transmission of the copy of Franko's review to the Institute of Literature). We prepared for the publication (according to the autographs and first publications) and commented the source materials of the study that complement and underline a long history of their relationship and influences in various spheres of life activity. The first re-publication with comments (in book format) of M. Yatskiv's translations from English, German, French, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Polish, and Russian will be essential to the history of Ukrainian literature and comparative studies.
