The subject of the research are: the etymology of geographical proper names of Ukraine, lexical semantic system of Slavic languages and ethnic and cultural values reflected in them, cross-language lexical semantic interaction at the level of equivalent of words in Ukrainian and Polish, as well as at the level of common words of Ukrainian and Turkish. The aim of the project is to research some aspects of lexical semantic systems of the Ukrainian, Slavic and Turkish languages and to prepare for publication or publish lexicographic studies and the textbook. Methods and techniques of analysis of linguistic units and phenomena depend on tasks of the research and the character of the results. Bilingual foreign-Ukrainian and Ukrainian-foreign dictionaries are compiled by using the traditional technique of compilation of lexicographic studies which is based on accuracy of semantic interpretation and lexical grammatical correspondence between equivalents and source language units that is provided by application of component analysis techniques. Etymological analysis of the toponyms is based on the use of techniques of comparative historical method and consideration of cultural and historical factors. In the textbook "Introduction to Slavic Philology" there was used a complex of linguistic methods depending on the contents of each chapter: techniques of descriptive method are prevalent in the chapters with synchronic analysis of linguistic facts and language phenomena; though comparative historical method prevails in the chapters with diachronic aspect of data interpretation. Theoretical and practical results, scientific novelty: 1) For the first time in Ukrainian didactics there was implemented the idea of complex analysis of current state and historical development of Slavic languages and peoples in connection with ethnic and cultural processes; 2) for the first time in Slavic linguistics there was developed the concept of sorting out, qualification, and contrastive lexicographic description of equivalents of words in Polish and Ukrainian; 3) the experience of comparative historical analysis of geographical proper names in Slavic languages has been generalized and implemented in the process of etymologyzing of the most well-known toponyms of Ukraine; 4) the results of comparative historical studies make it possible to formulate the concept of ethnogenesis and glottogenesis of Ukrainian people and other Slavic peoples more precisely, to consolidate in the consciousness of the society the theory on their forming in the Middle Ages along with other European peoples (German, English, French, Spanish etc.), to refute mythic hypotheses relating to exclusivity of the Ukrainian people and language, on their direct connection to Trypillian, Aryan, and other pre-Slavic cultures; 5) permanent increasing of the number of equivalents of words in Ukrainian and Polish proves the hypothesis concerning their gradual development in the direction from synthetic to analytic type, similarly to other Slavic languages; 6) practical results of the research are reflected in two published dictionaries which do not have analogues in Slavic and international linguistics, in unique textbook of Slavic philology in Ukrainian language, twelve scientific papers, manuscripts of two not completed dictionaries and five articles which are ready to be published. Efficiency of the implementation: the textbook "Introduction to Slavic Philology" is used by students and lecturers of philology at higher education institutions of Ukraine and, partly, of other Slavic countries; bilingual "Ukrainian-Polish Dictionary of Word Equivalents" and "Polish-Ukrainian Dictionary of Word Equivalents" are applied in educational work while teaching the courses "Contrastive Linguistics", "Intermediate Levels of the Language System", "Polish" at NaUKMA; in 2011/2012 academic year the students of the Master program "Philology. Theory, History of the Ukrainian Language and Comparative Studies" were taught an optional course "Etymology of Proper and Common Names" based on the materials of "Short Etymological Dictionary of Toponyms of Ukraine", and in spring semester of 2012/2013 academic year the students of the same program will be taught the optional course "Slavic Onomastics".
