The subject of the study covers the evolution of a differentiated approach to the organization and content of schooling as a pedagogical phenomenon that contributed to the humanization and democratization of the educational process. For the purpose of research is defined and characterized the development of various forms of differentiated approach to the organization and content of work in the school field, which functioned in the Ukrainian lands during these three historical periods, taking into account the characteristics of the socio-political and cultural conditions which set the reasons of the ideas and manifestations of differentiated approach in the school field and its impact on the overall course of the school educational process. To solve research problems and achieve goals used set of complementary methods: a historiographical analysis of printed and archival sources, followed by synthesis results for further organizing, summarizing and updating theoretical achievements and experience in implementing various forms of differentiation of the educational process in the school field on various criteria of typology of schoolchildren for creating optimal conditions of their individual development; structural and genetic method on which studied the formation of didactic and educational foundations of a differentiated approach of school facilities installed efficiency implement innovative ideas; method of contrastive comparison that allowed illuminate and characterize specific (single) and common (universal) in the Ukrainian education in the context of the educational process of all-studied period. Novelty and theoretical significance of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in the system interdependence with other cultural and educational phenomena of the history of Ukraine presented the socio-historical, economic and purely educational reasons (including pedagogical paradigms that dominated in different historical periods) enhance the development of ideas to provide a differentiated approach in the school field and their practical experience in various incarnations in the form of organization and direction of the educational process primary and secondary schools in the studing period. Proved the uniqueness of the phenomenon of differentiation in education that was to enhance the development of its external forms, and therefore the intense diversification of types of educational institutions. Found that in the process there were sporadic, local manifestations of internal differentiation in the content and organization of the schooling, also in the construction of textbooks. It is shown that a differentiated approach was multidimensional process with non-linear relationships between pedagogical phenomena (ideas and practical forms of realization). It developed from the interaction of several drivers: government measures of developing education according to the state of political and economic needs, social and educational thought that have caused the movement for improving education of demos, scientific psychological and educational research, which initiated the introduction of individualization and differentiation of education and training children according to their characteristics and interests. It was established genetic relationships between such pedagogical phenomena as the professionalization of school education, it profiling, creating a network of institutions for children with special needs, the organization network of research institutions that have developed and implemented idea of differentiation in education. Research not only served to enhance knowledge about the historical and pedagogical process in Ukraine, but also gave the material to explain the mechanisms of formation of a new, including a differentiated approach in the school, allowing more fully comprehend educative issues and provides the impetus for further creative use of historical achievements with the new conditions and requirements. The result of the research - created manuscript of monograph - not only significantly complements and deepens the history of domestic schooling and educational thought, but also enriches the current research field evolution mechanisms explaining ways to humanize and optimize upbringing and education. Results of historiographical analysis of the sources are contributing to the expansion of historical and pedagogical knowledge and information base needed by modern educational practice, including for prognostic reasons. Implementation and testing results of the study during the period of 2010-2012 years was carried out by participating of scientists in such events: the 12 national scientific conferences, in 3 of which the laboratory was co-hosting, in 5 national educational readings in 3 of are dedicated to updating legacy VO Suhomlinskogo, the laboratory was also co-organizer, in 5 all-Ukrainian pedagogical conferences devoted to actualization of V. Suhomlinsky's heritage (in 3 of them the laboratory was co-organizer), in 6 all-round tables (one was organized by the laboratory ), in 7 educational activities of the regional and district level. Materials of the monograph can be used in the developing and updating of lecture courses of general pedagogical subjects at universities in Ukraine, in institutions of postgraduate education, as opportunity for deepen students' knowledge of history of general educational process that will enhance training future professionals, awareness of the genesis of social and educational practices in Ukraine. The results can be used for research of scientists from NAPS of Ukraine and academics related humanitarian sectors, by postgraduate and doctoral students.
