In the course of the study, methodic principles for an analysis of urban symbolic space, collective memories and local identities of town communities were designed. The methodology is based on semiological analysis of urban space, theories of collective memory, discourse analysis, national /cultural identity theories. A study report was prepared, including chapters on the approaches to analysis of symbolic space, memory culture and local identities, on the shaping and transformation of urban spaces in selected seven Ukrainian towns, on the State's memory policy and its implementation.
