The aim of the work consists in development of mathematical models for investigation of dynamics and stress-strain state of railway vehicles structure elements taking into account features of their protection at impact loads; dynamic response estimation of cars equipped with perspective draft gears and protective devices at incidents; development of recommendations on the choice of railway vehicles protection devices rational parameters at superstandard impact loading. Research methods are finite element, linear algebra, numerical integration methods and the methods of experimental research.Results obtained. New mathematical models to analyze the dynamics, response and stress-strain state of railway vehicles at superstandard impact loading characterizing test scenarios of incident collisions taking into account specifics of particular type of railway car structures, features of its loading, work of perspective draft gears and the passive safety system are developed. Proposals of the passive protection of new rolling stock wagons of 1520 mm track gauge and the concept of the passive protection for the new generation locomotive are worked out. Various constructions of passive protection system crash elements for installation at end parts of the locomotive frame are proposed. Practical importance has the constructions of energy absorption devices and the EP20 locomotive frame cab with a crash zone and a safety zone and recommendations on the passive protection of high-speed passenger train cars at incident collisions with an obstacle developed on the basis of the research executed. The results of the research are used by Ltd "V. Bubnov Leading Specialized Design Car Building Bureau" for development of freight cars perspective draft gears and by Ltd "Research and Development Manufacturing Enterprise "MDC" for development of a new generation locomotives modular cab intended for high-speed motion on the 1520 mm track gauge.
