Object of research: financial services market financial intermediaries in economic transformation processes. Purpose - identify characteristics of theoretical approaches to determining the nature of financial intermediation, its meaning and function in the development of the financial and real sectors. Methods - dialectical, causation, abstract logical, comparative, statistical methods, structural and system analysis. The results and their novelty: summarizes the main theoretical approaches and evolution of views to determine the nature of the concepts of "financial intermediation" and "financial intermediary"; systematized classification attributes types of financial intermediaries with regard to their functions and level of development of the financial system; analyzed benchmarks financial intermediaries for economic growth, financial market development and consumer financial services; predicted prospects of financial intermediation in the current conditions of the domestic financial market; identified existing problems of financial intermediation that require priority in solving the global financial crisis. Relationship to other work: results used in the process of teaching, "Research in Financial Services" reported at scientific conferences and published in scientific journals. Recommendations for use of the work: on the basis of the analysis can be offered scientific and methodological approaches evaluation and optimization mechanism for the formation of financial intermediaries. Application: 75.13.0 "Regulation and facilitate the effective conduct of economic activity." The significance of the work and conclusions: establish scientific and theoretical basis for the study and make effective decisions in the assessment, management and optimization of financial intermediaries. Forecast assumptions about the development of the object of study: further improvement of process of the regulation of financial services and optimization of financial intermediaries to provide crisis and sustainable development of the economy.
