Objective: definition the destabilization of the genome in somatic cells in patients with thyroid cancer (TC ) who were exposed to ionizing radiation (IR ) as a result of the Chornobyl accident and and developed cancer thyroid, and also set importance of DNA repair gene polymorphisms XRCC1 and XPD in violation of the genome. Research methods - molecular-genetic, cytogenetic and statistical. The study was determined the frequency of dominant alleles and DNA repair genes - XPD and XRCC1 in patients with thyroid cancer who were exposed to IR (main group), as well as in patients with spontaneous thyroid cancer (comparison group). Encountered genetic predisposition to the development of thyroid cancer influenced by TS. It is shown that homozygous carriers of the alleles of a gene XRCC1 Gln399Gln main group more likely to have thyroid cancer than carriers of other genotypes of this gene. The frequency of chromosome aberrations ( XA) in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with thyroid cancer, which was subjected to IR, spontaneous level exceeds a population statistically higher than the control, and also higher than that of patients in the comparison group. This fact may indicate that chromosomal instability plays a major role in the formation of radiation - associated tumors.
