Description

The comparative analysis of characteristics of electronic ballasts with discharge light sources with frequency, phase, amplitude, pulse-width modulation and combined control of light sources power is performed on the basis of nonlinear models of fluorescent lamp and high-pressure sodium lamp with its high-frequency operation for using in modern dimming electronic ballasts. The power dependences of ballasts for various control methods are analyzed. It is established that among considered methods the phase method is the better one because it ensures near line control characteristic, wide dead-time delay which make for a small switching loss, wide power control band. It is appointed that the characteristic impedance of resonant tank of resonant inverter influences essentially upon the electronic ballast characteristics and the character of this influence is not depend on control method. The single-stage electronic ballast with power factor corrector and lamp light flux control is proposed. The power factor corrector and resonant inverter are integrated in single stage low-cost structure by sharing two switch. Such structures gives the possibilities to reduce the cost of electronic ballast and to increase the quality of electric energy. The recommendations on the using of considered power control methods in dimming electronic ballasts are elaborated.
