The nanowires are shown to have hexagonal facets with lateral size increasing with Mn content. The decrease of nanowires' band gap with increase of Mn concentration is found. The considerable modification of the vibrational properties of the ZnO matrix by Mn doping is shown. Coexistence of secondary phase of cubic spinel ZnMn2O4 is found at high concentrations of Mn. Obtained clear contrast in magnetic-force images of ZnO:Mn nanowires indicates ferromagnetism at room temperature. Density of vibrational states of hexagonal Co-doped ZnO is theoretically calculated. The presence of Co in ZnO leads to appearance of additional vibrational modes with frequencies depending on the relative positions of Co atoms.
