General methodological approaches to assessing the specific genetic resources are specified according to the objectives of global goals of the biodiversity preservation of animals, the basic principles of genetic and selective monitoring have been provided, a combination of livestock and veterinary information with the specific genetic research materials. The methodological bases of using genetic polymorphism at the population and individual levels have been elaborated. The methodical approach to the analysis of livestock breeding resources for genetic markers have been elaborated that makes it possible to assess genetic characteristics of species to determine their specificity at the species level.
