Objective: to determine the molecular-biological and cerebral mechanisms of cognitive dysfunction as a result of Chornobyl exposure to low doses of ionizing radiation as a manifestation of human aging. Chornobyl clean-up workers after exposure to doses of 500 mSv exhibited more marked cognitive deficit compared to groups exposed to 500 mSv, non-exposed groups and exposed in utero. IQ disharmony was shown with lower verbal intelligence IQ compared to non-verbal. Mean relative telomere length in cleanup workers was decreased after 50 years (6.1%), after 70 years (11.7%). In the range of low doses decreased RTL associated with TERT2 overexpression and low expression of TERT were found. At doses above 250-500 mSv we demonstrate overexpression of TERF1, TERT genes and reduced of TERF2 gene expression, associated with cognitive impairment and dementia.
