Objective: to substantiate and develop a scientific theory of modernization of didactic content of education in specialized schools. Objective: to study the current state of the research problem in theory and in school practice; to justify didactic principles of content building of profile education; to develop a conceptual model of content building of specialized education in the unity of its invariant and variable components; to determine didactic conditions for the implementation of the conceptual model of content building of specialized education in the unity of its invariant and variable components. Research methods: theoretical analysis, synthesis, comparison and matching - for conceptualizing the philosophical, psychological and pedagogical scientific literature, studying legal documents in the sphere of ??education, dictionaries, encyclopedias, abstracts, theses, Internet resources, teaching experience in educational institutions of Ukraine; empirical methods - questioning, observation, oral interviews, results analysis, statistical methods of experimental data; prognostic methods (simulation, independent expert estimation method) for the implementation and testing of developed materials. Research results at the first stage: research program is developed; conceptual and categorical apparatus of the research is systematized; empirical material to create the dictionary of the main terms of the research is selected; the preconditions and trends of content building of specialized education in the unity of its invariant and variable components are studied; the results of the analysis of pedagogical, philosophical, psychological, sociological literature on the research problem, state documents, valid curricula, textbooks, etc. are generalized; the research conceptual and categorical apparatus is developed; the preconditions and theoretical and methodological foundations of content building of specialized education in the unity of its invariant and variable components are defined; didactic peculiarities of content building of specialized education are analyzed basing on personality-centered, competency, axiological, metasubject and integrative approaches and the principles of humanization, fundamentalization, integration, systematization, variability and differentiation; analytical and diagnostic experiments at the sites are organized and conducted (415 students of 10-11 forms of secondary schools and 109 high school teachers are interviewed): the respondents’ attitudes to current high school education content in the unity of its invariant and variable components are revealed; existing specialties and learning needs of high school students are matched; the hierarchy of the main types of specialties in educational system is built; the correlation of invariant and variable components by which specialized education will be effectively implemented is defined (according to high school students, the ratio (by standard deviation - 18.448 and coefficient of variation - 0.392) should be of 53% and 47%, according to teachers – of 65% and 35% (for standard deviation - 14.196 and coefficient of variation - 0.401); it is determined that found that the students’ choice of special courses of intersubject character helps: introducing new fields of knowledge, not represented in the content of non-core and core subjects, but focused on the future career of the chosen specialty; providing students’ professional training; deepening and expanding the content of individual sections of the specialty (if necessary - even non-core) subjects; disclosing practice-oriented aspects of knowledge acquired during the training; the nature and characteristics of axiological principles of content building of specialized education in the unity of its invariant and variable components are determined; the place of value system in the formation of the world outlook, and epistemological value of variable component content is defined (59.76% of high school students prefer elective courses); the structural elements of the model of the specialized content building based on metasubject approach are developed: model blocks (of purpose, diagnostic and consulting, contextual, resulting) and corresponding metasubject categories; methodological principles of formation and implementation of educational variable component in high school; the chapters of the the collective monograph are prepared; two volumes of scientific works "Didactics: theory and practice" devoted to theoretical and applied aspects of modernization of educational content, a number of articles and conference proceedings are published.
