The object of study - the financial sector of Ukraine. The purpose - justification of practical recommendations for recapitalization of individuals of the financial sector as a prerequisite to strengthen its role in the modernization of Ukraine's economy. Methods of research - scientific abstraction; analysis and synthesis; structural and functional; statistical comparisons; methods of generalization, sampling, expert assessments, extrapolation; historical method. Results of the study: the causes, forms, extent and consequences of decapitalization of the financial sector of economy of Ukraine at the present stage are revealed; assessing of the need for recapitalization of individuals of the financial sector for recovering the functional ability of financial institutions is shown; the features and limitations of individuals of the recapitalization of the financial sector of the national economy at modern conditions are determined; the proposals to recapitalize the financial sector (by banks and non-bank financial institutions) in terms of the need to enhance its role in financing the modernization of the national economy are grounded. The materials of the research project have practical implications for improving of the regulation of financial institutions and financial markets in the economy of Ukraine. Specific conclusions and recommendations used in the practice of the Committee on Financial Policy and Banking of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, by the regulators of the financial sector (NBU, NSSMC, NCSRFSM). Novelty: revealed the essential features of the process of the financial sector capitalization in the economy of Ukraine at the present stage, that allowing to clarify the causes, forms, extent and consequences of this phenomenon; assess the need for recapitalization of individuals of the financial sector for recovering the functional ability of financial institutions, ground the proposals of the financial sector recapitalization (by banks and non-bank financial institutions) in terms of the need to enhance its role in financing the modernization of the national economy.
