The subject matter comprises: systemic relations, stylistic, functional, sociolinguistic and linguocultural features of Ukrainian and other languages in synchrony and diachrony; intercultural communication in the context of language and literature development; specific inter-literary correlations and artistic convergence; text and aesthetic perception of reality; innovative comparative models; linguistic and literary studies methodology; formation of linguo-communicative comptence for linguistic and non- linguistic students in secondary and higher educational institutions. The aim of research is to accumulate major basic approaches to forming relevant methodologies for Ukrainian and other language teaching, including teaching translation and literature in view of modern linguistic contemporary and historic theories and hypotheses; to develop and prove the methods and ways of forming linguo-communicative compentece of students in a higher educational institution. Methods of research comprise traditional and innovative approaches in Linguistics, mainstreaming of interdisciplinary, intersemiotic and intermedial approaches, post-colonial critiques, gender studies, receptive aesthetics, comparative and historic methods; education experimentation with its ascertaining, formational and testing stages. The novelty of results is represented by formation of linguo-communicative compentece of students being first developed, tested and implemented in the educational process through the innovative techniques on the basis of fundamental theoretical and empirical research; by examining the intercultural communication issues and the tendencies of distinguishing language levels for their teaching in relation to research-based learning; by analyzing some aspects of correlations in Ukrainian and European languages and literatures development through the parameters of intercultural communication between Ukrainian and European communities; by the studies in contemporary literary process on the basis of theoretical and methodological interdisciplinary research. Implementation stages: The outcomes of the research are implemented in the educational process as well as in the research practices in Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, in other secondary and higher educational institutions of the city and the country. Connection with other research: "International Research Network for study and development of new tools and methods for advanced pedagogical science in the field of ICT instruments, e-learning and intercultural competences" (the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)); "New Ukrainian School" in cooperation with Lviv In-Service Training Institute as a segment of Polish Cooperation Programme for Development implemented by the Education Development Ceter (ORE (Osrodek rozwoju edukacji) in Warsaw; "New Generation School Teacher" in cooperation with British Council in Ukraine. Recommendations for implementation of the results: materials of the studies can be accessed by other institutions for further theoretical and empirical evaluation of identification criteria in intercultural communication issues; for accumulating practices in dealing with intercultural communication barriers and elimination of intercultural gaps; for designing new curricula and syllabi, methodological guidance, distance education courses, also in graduate, post-graduate and doctoral research.
