We clarified the concept of "competence-based approach in the education of children with mental disabilities" and defined its role in ensuring effective social adaptation and socialization of children in independent living. We refined the essence of the following concepts: "life competencies" , "the social and adaptive skills", as indicators of educational achievements of students with mild mental retardation throughout the period they receive educational services from early intervention to complete the training in the school system. The specificity of the implementation of the updated content of education of children with mental disabilities and taking into account its software development content of educational fields through its distribution rates etiological development of students (mild to moderate mental retardation). Integrated correctional and developing trends in the situation of competence approach and developed an updated program content of educational areas of basic school level (grades 8-10): "Language and Literature", "Society", "Natural science", "Technology", "Health and Physical Education" and the contents of correctional and developmental work for the ground-level of education of children with intellectual disabilities based on the enhancing the adaptive capacity of the child; reducing the influence of destabilizing factors on the formation of the individual student with mental disabilities; development of cognitive, sensory-motor activity, speech communication; personal abilities of students. We implemented a model of psycho-pedagogical support for children with moderate mental retardation in the system of correctional and developmental education special educational institution based on organizational, didactic-informative and correctional and rehabilitation professionals providing training team.
