The object of study: the social protection of the population in Ukraine in a decentralized environment. Purpose: formation of approaches to research in the field of fiscal decentralization reforms in the way of increasing the efficiency of the social protection system in Ukraine, taking into account the world experience and Ukrainian socio-economic environment. Scientific research report includes the impact of fiscal decentralization on the financing of the social protection system; assessment of the impact of fiscal decentralization on the efficiency of the system of social protection of the population in the EU Member States; proposals to improve the functioning of the social protection system in the context of decentralization reforms, using the experience of EU member states. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the formation of proposals to reduce the possible risks of negative impact of fiscal decentralization on public financing of social protection system in Ukraine. The practical value of the work lies in the possibility of using the results of research in the practical work of the Ministry of Finance and the Government in the development of normative legal acts on social protection.
