The object of research in research work is the power plants of diesel locomotives. The purpose of the work is to reduce the costs of enterprises to conduct testing of power plants after major overhauls, while simultaneously increasing the reliability of diesel locomotives. Achievement of the set goal is achieved by developing new and improving existing methods and means after repair tests. The main methods used in performing the research are methods of mathematical modeling, methods for analyzing the frequency characteristics of harmonic signals, and statistical analysis. The scientific novelty of the study is to improve the "free run" method for testing hydraulic transmissions and the method of diagnosing the working process of a diesel engine by analyzing the unevenness of the angular velocity of the crankshaft. The practical significance of the work is to automate the collection of data in the testing of power plants in order to fix fast processes for determining the technical state.
