It was found that a key feature of the renovation of educational policy strategy in independent Ukraine was the focus on the development of the national spirit of the school and its gradual de-Sovietization, ensuring the national character of the current curricula and textbooks. It is proved that one of the first mechanisms for updating the content of school education and monitoring the quality of learning should be considered the State standards of primary general education (2001), adopted for the purpose of unloading the contents of primary education, providing conditions for approval of the personality-oriented education, implementing competence-based approach to teaching students. It argues that the main feature of the development of national minority schools in independent Ukraine has been a gradual shift from the study of minority languages on an optional basis to the introduction of them as the subjects in the curricula and programs. Thus, the classes and the schools with studying the Crimean Tatar, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Turkish, Hebrew, Bulgarian, Gagauz, Modern Greek, Slovak, Czech, German languages were found. The contribution of Ukrainian psychologists to deepening the differentiation processes in school education in the first half of the 1990s was represented.
